Mirror Finish or Pure Black Version for MB559?

The new ICY DOCK MB559 has two different versions. Mirror finish or pure black version.

Mirror Finish version has glassier looking and it has nice coiling on the enclosure. But you will get your finger prints on the enclosure.

Pure Black version it's just plain pure black without worrying about finger prints on the enclosure.

Both of two models made by black anodized aluminum

ICY DOCK would like to know which version of black the general consumer would prefer.

pure black is more functional, after all is an external HD case, not a lamp ;)

They both look pretty nice. But you might consider a black anodized aluminum case material like what is used on the Apple iPod nano. It resists scratching quite nicely. Plus it looks good as well. Not as snazzy as the mirror black finish but nice and durable. :-)

Moving a little out of bounds, I would suggest a different variant of black. Several years ago Cambridge Soundworks came out with a finish for their speakers that had this velvetly finish. It's feels wild to pick up and touch. I think this would force the color to have a matt finish. So if the drive is to be portable, why not have something that feels good to the hand and looks good as well. But if no other choice were available I would pick the pure version because the shinier black plastic adds a little zip to the pure black enclosure, it's like trim on a car. Where as with the mirror finish the black plastic gets lost with the metal.

i love the mirro finish (the shyny one). Looks prettier. The fingerprints doesn't really worry me as the external HD usually are just left there so not many people will touch it.

BTW, the black looks awesome

I would have to say the pure black, because it looks more rugged and this is a hdd enclosure and the mirror finish will leave fingerprints very easily and so many other companies use the mirror finish.

Pure black. I might buy speakers with a piano finish, but not a hard drive enclosure. I need features more than I need to see my reflection darkly.

i would prefer the pure black version w/ a mirror finish front plate (hard drive enclosure).
I just cancelled my order for the silver one today when i found out black was coming out. When will online stores start carrying them?

Also, reading previous blogs, do you hard drive trays now come w/ the protection case? I have not seen that version of the tray anywhere, i would like the protection case since i'll have more than 1 external drive/tray.

Thanks

Hello! ;)
wow... what demented news!
what do you think about it?

I would say the flat, pure black. I've noticed with shinier surfaces, they tend to attract both fingerprints and scratches a lot easier, and make it constantly look dirty. The mirror would look terrific in a condition where no one would be touching it, but for practical uses, the flat would be better.

Definitely prefer the pure black version over the highly glossy version.

The glossy version looks nice, but will be a fingerprint magnet.

I would have to pick the Pure Black version. The miror finish will look better but like the Sony PSP, it will show fingerprints, etc.

BTW: I'm in the market for the black version of the MB559 now. How much longer before the black variant is out?

WELL HONESTLY IT DOESNT MATTER SO MUCH

BEING BLACK COLORED WOULD ALREADY TURN THIS DOCK INTO SOMETHING VERY DESIRABLE

BUT STILL I WOULD SAY SHINNY BLACK WOULD MAKE IT A LITTLE MORE PLEASANT FOR THE EYES

If I had to choose I would say pure black. I think pure black matches most other anodized aluminum cases and peripherals out there now.

I really like the mirror finish a lot. The dust does not seem to like it and if you angle it just right, you can see whats coming from your back.
Good luck to others trying to decide 8)

I'm buying my second unit, and so I have white and black. The shiny black is very hard to find in the UK - and when they arrive I will add it to my list. It would be really useful for ICY DOCK to supply Amazon UK with more of your products.
