General

Q   Will my particular SSD work with this device?
o    Assuming the SSD you have chosen is a standard 2.5” SATA drive, yes, your SSD will work in these converters. The converters simply pass the SATA power and data connections through to the motherboard/controller card, allowing you to be worry free about drivers, firmware, or compatibility issues.

Q   Can this work in my particular computer case?
o    Yes, these converters use the exact form factor of a 3.5” SATA drive, meaning all connections, dimensions, and mounting holes are the exact same. If you can mount your 3.5” drive in your case, you can mount one of these converters.

MB982IP-1S & MB982SP-1S

Q   Will this work with my SAS or SSD/HDD that is bigger than the standard 9.5mm height?
o    Yes. The designs of both models allow for a bigger height clearance and thus, allowing compatibility with these types of drives.

Q   What is the maximum transfer rate for SATA interface?
o    The SATA transfer rate will depend on the drive speed as well as which interface the controller card or motherboard uses.

o    The maximum transfer rate when using SATA 1.5Gbps (SATA I) is approximately 150 MB/sec.
o    The maximum transfer rate when using SATA 3Gbps (SATA II) is approximately 300 MB/sec.
o    The maximum transfer rate when using SATA 6Gbps (SATA III) is approximately 600MB/sec.

Q   Is this compatible with SATA 6Gbps (SATA III)?
o    Yes, because this device does not use any chipsets, the SATA connection from the drive is directly passed through to the motherboard/controller card. And since SATA 6Gbps saw no change to the physical connectors, it is compatible with SATA 3Gbps products where no chipsets are involved. Both drive and motherboard/controller card must support SATA 6Gbps.

Q   What is the difference between the MB982IP-1S and the MB982SP-1S?
o    The “IP” version is the first of its kind in this product line. The design and build quality are almost identical, however, the IP version allows SAS & SATA SSD/HDD to be used.

o    The "SP” version was our second addition to this product line. The design and build quality are almost identical, however, the SP version allows only SATA SSD/HDD to be used.

Q   If I am using a SAS hard drive, can this be used on a SATA controller?
o   No, the converter is not compatible in this case and can be only used either SATA drive to SATA controller or SAS drive to SAS controller.

Q  I am having physical fit issues with my converter, how do I fix this?
o   If you are under our warranty policy, please submit an RMA request or contact us for more information.

MB982IP-1S-1

Q   Will this work with my SAS or SSD/HDD that is bigger than the standard 9.5mm height?
o    Yes. The designs of both models allow for a bigger height clearance and thus, allowing compatibility with these types of drives.

Q   If I am using a SAS hard drive, can this be used on a SATA controller?
o   No, the converter is not compatible in this situation and can be only used either SATA drive to SATA controller or SAS drive to SAS controller.

MB982SPR-2S

Q   What is the maximum transfer rate for SATA interface?
o    The SATA transfer rate will depend on the drive speed as well as which interface the controller card or motherboard uses. However, the maximum SATA drive type supported is SATA II. This is a limiation set by the controller chipset used.

Q   My MB982SPR-2S converter does not fit into ‘X’ system.
o    You may have an older converter that displayed some incompatibilities with fitting. We have adjusted this issue and have since resolved this problem. If you have an older device, please contact us.

Q   Is the software for the MB982SPR-2S compatible with Mac & PC systems?
o   Yes, we have software available for both Mac and PC systems.

Q   Is TRIM function supported?
o    TRIM is not supported due to compatibility issues with SSD and the chipset on the MB982SPR-2S. The SSD may not accept the TRIM command correctly and can cause adverse affects on the drives while in either RAID mode.

Q   Is PM ( port multiplier for JBOD) supported?
o    This will depend on your computer specs. The MB982SPR-2S requires that both ends (host and connection) have PM in order to see both drives in JBOD mode. The MB982SPR has port multiplication on its end. We suggest checking if your motherboard/PCI card has such support.

Q   Does this device work with SATA III drives?
o   Yes, however, there are some restrictions. Please see the “Can the unit support “X” drive” question.

Q   Can the unit support “X” drive?
o   The unit can support up to SATA III SSD/HDD due to the backwards compatibility, however, cannot produce the throughput exceeding SATA II specifications due to the controller chip design. Any drives which are above 9.5mm in height also will not work in this device.
